The Lawyer
Daniel Meier-Greve

My interest in the law dates back to my childhood. My grandfather was a judge. He taught me early on that law and justice are not always the same thing—and that it’s important to grapple with this tension.
My legal education took me to Saarbrücken, Hamburg, and New York. I have been practicing law since 2004.
Litigation has appealed to me from the very beginning. It requires a willingness to engage in open debate: to withstand opposition, to challenge others’ views, and to stand up for one’s own position—even when a court has already ruled otherwise. This includes being able to cope with the uncertainty of the outcome.
My professional career began at major commercial law firms. At Heuking in Hamburg and CMS in Munich, I worked on complex commercial litigation cases. Later, I took over as head of litigation at PwC Legal in Hamburg. This was followed by several more years in leadership roles and as a partner at commercial law firms.
That time shaped who I am today. I got to know different law firm cultures and saw what large law firms are capable of. But I also learned which work styles suit me—and which don’t.
With LEGAL+, I finally acted on that realization. I wanted to combine my experience from large law firms with a different approach to legal practice: one that is personal, direct, and free from the organizational structures that often come between attorneys and clients in larger firms.
I have always remained true to my area of expertise: litigation. I also draft contracts from the perspective of a trial attorney—with an eye toward the day when they will have to stand up in a dispute.
